About Me

I’m not a fashion expert nor do I pretend to be. I’m a big believer that style does not require spending a month’s rent on a coveted bag or designer shoes. In fact, finding a piece that I happen to love at a really great price is just as thrilling as finding the item in the first place!

For me, creating a look involves pulling pieces from what I think are affordable retail stores, thrift shops and vintage pieces passed down from my family. I don’t chase trends and I never go to the mall in search for an ensemble that I’ve seen in a magazine. Simply put, I buy items that I really love and create looks based on the weather, the occasion and how I’m feeling on that particular day.

In this blog, I will attempt to document the brands of the items that I’m wearing and the price at which I bought them. Some might say that’s tacky, but I’m only doing so to illustrate a point. Style isn’t exclusive, style is expression.

What size are you? – I’m really petite. No seriously, I’m a living breathing Polly Pocket. Extra small, 5’1
What is your age?  – I’m older than I look
What do you do? – Not a whole lot
What makes you angry – Pollution, cruelty to animals and harem pants
What is your “go to outfit” – Pajamas
If you could meet one designer, dead or alive, who would it be? Not sure…I don’t really have a favourite designer
Where do you find your inspiration? - Other style blogs, street style…
What fashion capital do you most identify with? – It’s a toss up between New York and London
What’s your fashion vice? – Statement jewellery. It’s the one item I’m most likely to spend $$$ on. It’s my kryptonite
What was your worst childhood fashion memory? White eyeliner. *shudder*
What is your must have? Clean underwear
What is your favourite fashion era? I don’t really have one…I like different aspects from different decades
What is the one fashion trend you never want to see make a come back? Take a big guess – harem pants. That one needs to die forever. Just sayin’
Favourite fashion quote – “Fashion fades, only style remains” – Coco Chanel
What do you think is the one item that every girl could use to complete an outfit – a little sparkle ;)

The Other Budget Brunette

Emma Kapetanovic and I have been best friends since high school and bonded through our mutual love of the arts and fashion. She has been kind enough to photograph me, edit my photos and make my hair and face look somewhat presentable to the public. Let’s face it, if I were left to my own devices, I would look like one hot mess.  Although I take a lot of abuse from her during our photo shoots (c’mon, you know it’s true), it goes without saying that I appreciate all the time and effort she has dedicated toward my blog. She spends hours out of her weekends to shoot me in random and sometimes sketchy locations and goes to great lengths to get the perfect shot. On occasion she writes beauty and health posts on my blog so make sure to look for more updates  from this beauty guru. Thanks Emma!! I couldn’t have done it without you!

Emma also started a blog called "The Black Sheep Agenda

Note: This will be first and last time I express my “feelings” in public.
